Congressman Max Miller Introduces Legislation to Strengthen American Agriculture and Promote a Healthier Food Supply
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) proudly introduced the Harvest to Hue Act, landmark legislation to empower America’s farmers to lead the transition toward natural food color additives in the nation’s food supply.
The bill comes on the heels of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s April 22 announcement of a national transition to natural food color additives as part of the Administration’s broader Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. Recognizing the critical role of American farmers, the Harvest to Hue Act will create new market opportunities, boost agricultural innovation, and ensure consumers have access to safe, affordable, and natural food products.
“Our farmers are the backbone of our nation. By empowering our farmers, we are investing in the future of American agriculture and ensuring healthier choices for American families,” said Congressman Miller. “The Harvest to Hue Act harnesses their strength and current innovation efforts to meet growing consumer demand for natural products while reinforcing the integrity and safety of America’s food supply. This is a win for farmers, a win for public health, and a win for America.”
The Harvest to Hue Act will:
- Direct the Secretary of Agriculture to enhance USDA efforts that enable U.S. farmers to grow, produce, and harvest agricultural goods for use as natural color additives;
- Promote collaboration between federal agencies, farmers, and food industry partners to expand production capacity;
- Focus USDA research initiatives to support the development of natural colorant resources derived from agriculture.
