U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s Week in Review

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) had a full week both in the district and in Washington, D.C. Below are some of the highlights from the Congressman’s official activities for the week of April 9.  

MONDAY, April 8 

Congressman Miller participated in the Total Eclipse Fest event at the Great Lakes Science Center, home of the NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) Visitor Center, along with his wife Emily and daughter Ruth. The event was a celebration and viewing of the very rare total eclipse over Cleveland, Ohio. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, NASA Associate Administrator James Free, NASA GRC Director Dr. James Kenyon, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11), Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne also attended the event. TUESDAY, April 9 

Congressman Miller participated in a House Republican Conference Steering Committee meeting to select the new Chair of the Committee on Appropriations and to fill a vacancy on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) was selected to become the Chairman, and Congressman Kevin Kiley (CA-03) received the open committee seat. The freshman Republican Members selected Congressman Miller to be their representative on the Republican Steering Committee in December of 2022.  

WESNEDAY, April 10 

Congressman Miller met with representatives from the American Fruit & Vegetable Coalition (AVF Coalition). The AFV Coalition is a large group of America’s fruit and vegetable growers and producers. Some of their members include Red Gold Tomatoes, Seneca, and Bush Baked Beans. The Congressman’s post about the meeting can be found here

Congressman Miller met with the CEO of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD), Kyle Dreyfuss-Wells, in his Washington, D.C. office to discuss the project the Congressman secured for NEORSD in the FY24 Community project funding process. Congressman Miller secured funding for 8 water or sewer projects, including one for NEORSD totaling $2,000,000. He was also able to provide an update on the Community Project Funding process for FY25. A post about the Congressman’s meeting can be found here

Congressman Miller met with the Dean of the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rustin Moore. During the meeting, the Congressman provided an update on the Farm Bill and learned more about the highly pathogenic avian influenza that is affecting livestock in Ohio. Other participants in the meeting included Assistant Dean for External Relations Liesa Stone, Associate Vice President for Government Affairs Stan Skocki and Large Animal Vice Chair and Professor Andrew Niehaus. Congressman Miller met with representatives of the Ohio Pig Farmers and Ohio Pork Council to discuss policy priorities such as animal health, trade, environmental regulations, and conservation as part of their annual fly-in. Cheryl Day and Dave Shoup attended the meeting and are members of the Congressman’s Agriculture Advisory Council. Photos from this meeting can be found here.  

FRIDAY, April 12 

Congressman Miller met with students from Holy Family School in Parma who were in town for a school trip. The students had the opportunity to ask the Congressman questions on topics ranging from his time in the White House to what it is like to be a Member of Congress. Congressman Miller met with the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge from Ohio’s Seventh Congressional District. Akshaj and Eshaan Satyawada, twins from Broadview Heights, created the MindMatters application. This application is a user-friendly mental wellness application that helps track an individual’s moods using expressive emojis throughout the week. The application also offers inspirational quotes to users who are experiencing difficult days. Akshaj and Eshaan were in Washington, D.C. as part of the #HouseOfCode Event for App Challenge winners. SATURDAY, April 13 

Congressman Miller attended the Joint Veterans Council of Cuyahoga County (JVCCC) Veteran of the Year Luncheon, where this year’s winner, Sean Ennis, was honored. Sean, an Army veteran, served tours in Vietnam, Korea, and Thailand. After retiring, Sean served as the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2533 in Ohio’s Seventh Congressional District. In 2011, he was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. Sean also serves as a mentor at Cleveland Municipal Veterans Treatment Court.  Congressman Max Miller represents Ohio’s Seventh District which includes Medina and Wayne counties as well as parts of Cuyahoga and Holmes counties. Miller serves on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, for which he is also Chairman of the Environment Subcommittee. The Republican freshman members selected Miller as their representative to the Republican Steering Committee.  He is a member of the Republican Study Committee, Main Street Caucus, and the Congressional Jewish Caucus.
