U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s Week in Review
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Below are the highlights of U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s (OH-07) schedule from the week of July 22.
TUESDAY, July 23
- Congressman Miller met with representatives from the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) from Ohio to discuss legislation designed to expand federal death benefits for firefighters to include coverage for occupational cancer. The IAFF is a labor union representing firefighters from the United States and Canada. They have more than 350,000 members. Pictures from the meeting can be found here.
WEDNESDAY, July 24
- Congressman Miller spoke on the House Floor to recognize the entrepreneurial achievements of Melody and Rachel Steiner, also known as the Sunbow 57 Girls. The sisters sell cotton candy and homemade cookies at farmer’s markets across northeast Ohio, and Melody is using the business proceeds to save up for aviation school. In his remarks, Congressman Miller underscored the need for more pilots and aviation workers and emphasized the importance of Career and Technical Education to help bridge the gap. - Congressman Miller attended the Joint Meeting of Congress with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The Congressman was joined by guest David Heller. Heller devotes himself to the Cleveland-area Jewish community by serving in various roles including past President of the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland and past President of the Ohio Jewish Communities. He was also appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Council by the President in 2009.
THURSDAY, July 25
- Congressman Miller participated in a House Agriculture Committee Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development Hearing on the reauthorization of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. His remarks highlighted the importance of risk management tools and the use of on-farm strategies, such as commodity diversification, to lessen risk. FRIDAY, July 26
- Congressman Miller met with the Mayor of Parma, Tim DeGeeter.
- Congressman Miller visited Soprema USA’s Wadsworth headquarters and met with CEO Tim Kersey. The Congressman toured the facility and heard from employees about their roofing, waterproofing, and wall protection operations. The group’s policy-oriented discussions focused on the reauthorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, and Soprema’s support for the R&D tax credits. - a ribbon cutting event for the Commercial Savings Bank in Medina,
- a ribbon cutting event for New Horizon Chiropractic in Medina,
- a groundbreaking for the Legacy Hotel in Medina,
- meeting with representatives from the Ohio Pork Council, and
- meeting with representatives from the Renewable Fuels Association.
