U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s Week in Review

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Below are the highlights of U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s (OH-07) schedule from the week of September 9.

WEDNESDAY, September 11 

  • Congressman Miller participated in a joint hearing with the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Nutrition, Foreign Agriculture, and Horticulture, and the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration. At the hearing, the Congressman questioned U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and recent distribution delays, cancellations, and shortages, all of which have threatened work to protect food security in Northeast Ohio. Congressman Miller will continue working with USDA to resolve these issues. A video of the Congressman’s participation can be found here
  • Congressman Miller met with Beck’s Hybrids Agriculture Policy Education Advisor Max Engling and Government Affairs Advocate Kala Jenkins to discuss the Farm Bill and EPA pesticide regulations. Beck’s Hybrids is the largest family-owned retail seed company in the nation. As the third-largest seed brand in the U.S., Beck’s has a strong presence throughout Ohio and the Midwest. Beck’s Hybrids focuses on technology, innovation, and genetics to achieve maximum planting and crop efficiencies to enable stronger rural economics to address food supply challenges. FRIDAY, September 13 

  • Congressman Miller visited the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s (NEORSD) Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant and Environmental and Maintenance Services Center (EMSC) in Cuyahoga County, which serves more than 530,000 residents. The EMSC houses the District’s Analytical Services, Sewer System Maintenance & Operations, Water Quality and Industrial Surveillance, Inventory Control, Building Maintenance, and Fleet Services departments. Situated on 288 acres, Southerly is the largest of NEORSD’s three wastewater plants and one of the largest facilities of its kind in the country. NEORSD’s Chief Executive Officer Kyle Dreyfuss-Wells, Legislative Affairs Manager Danielle Giannantonio, Deputy Director of Operations and Maintenance Tracey Phelps, and Director of Watershed Programs Matt Scharver showed the Congressman around the plant and introduced him to plant workers. Congressman Miller’s Team represented him at the following meetings and events: 

  • meeting with representatives from the Forman Association for Public Affairs – Ohio Chapter, which advocates for pro-Taiwan policies, 
  • meeting with Terry Groden, Susie Lawson, and Jennifer Hogue of the Ohio School Boards Association,  
  • meeting with representatives from the Ukraine Future Business Council, 
  • meeting with Dr. Thea Wilson, Eugenia Cash, and Doug Bennett from Head Start and Step Forward,  
  • briefing by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) on Chinese money laundering, 
  • roundtable discussion with the Medina County Economic Development Corporation, 
  • the Medina State of the City event, 
  • meeting with representatives from Ohio Credit Unions, 
  • 9/11 ceremony in Strongsville, 
  • meeting with the Ohio Farm Bureau including Ohio Farm Bureau President Bill Patterson, who sits on the Congressman’s Agriculture Advisory Council, 
  • the United Way of Summit and Medina Counties Bus Tour event, 
  • meeting with representatives from Ohio Pork Producers including their Executive Vice President Cheryl Day, who sits on the Congressman’s Agriculture Advisory Council, 
  • meeting with representatives from the American Association for People with Disabilities, 
  • meeting with representatives from the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine,  
  • the American Jewish Committee Cleveland Adler Leadership Award Reception, 
  • meeting with representatives from the State Auditor’s office, 
  • meeting with representatives of the Wayne County Visitors Bureau, and 
  • meeting with Cuyahoga County government officials

Congressman Max Miller represents Ohio’s Seventh District which includes Medina and Wayne counties as well as parts of Cuyahoga and Holmes counties. Miller serves on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, for which he is also Chairman of the Environment Subcommittee. The Republican freshman members selected Miller as their representative to the Republican Steering Committee.  He is a member of the Republican Study Committee, Main Street Caucus, and the Congressional Jewish Caucus.
