WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) introduced bipartisan legislation to increase employment opportunities for veterans in federal agriculture jobs.

Congressman Max Miller has partnered with Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Congressman Mike Levin (CA-49) to introduce bipartisan legislation to increase employment opportunities for veterans at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the fields of agriculture, conservation, and nutrition.

This legislation – the Employing Veterans to Feed America Act –  would require the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to a create a pilot program aimed at providing veterans meaningful employment in job opportunities at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, particularly job opportunities which will allow veterans to work outside in greenspaces that can help reduce stress and improve overall wellness.

“As a veteran myself, I came to Congress to see that our veterans get the unmistakable support they deserve as they transition back into civilian life,” said Congressman Max Miller. “We must ensure that our servicemembers have every opportunity possible to reintegrate back into their communities they care about and that the tools and skills they acquired are recognizable. This program can be another pathway to success for veterans and assist the USDA in some of its most important work.”

“Our veterans have dedicated their lives to protecting our country,” said Congressman Landsman. “They deserve gainful, fulfilling employment when they come home. This is a bipartisan measure to improve veterans’ quality of life and alleviate the Department of Agriculture’s current labor shortage.”

“As the Representative for one of the largest Marine Corps bases in the country and a large veteran population, I am invested in improving employment opportunities for our veterans,” said Congressman Levin. “This legislation will open more doors for veterans to access rewarding careers within USDA related to agriculture, conservation, and nutrition. Veterans have made sacrifices in service of our nation, and it’s our responsibility to ensure they have access to a wide range of employment opportunities. I’m proud to co-lead this bill with Reps. Landsman and Miller and look forward to it moving quickly through the legislative process.”
