WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82). The bill passed the House of Representatives on a bipartisan vote of 327 – 75.

“I was proud to co-sponsor the Social Security Fairness Act early in this Congress after hearing from constituents about the impact of the WEP and GPO on their retirement security, and I was proud to vote in favor of the bill today,” said Congressman Miller. “Americans should not be penalized for a lifetime of service to our nation. Public servants like teachers, police officers, and firefighters should not suffer for dedicating their careers to making our communities better and brighter places to live. The Social Security Fairness Act is a necessary correction to decades of unfairness, ensuring teachers, police officers, firefighters, and so many others receive the retirement benefits they deserve.”
