U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s Week in Review
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Below are highlights of U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s (OH-07) schedule the week of May 13 and highlights of his staff’s engagements with constituents.
MONDAY, May 13
- Congressman Miller met with Trustees from Olmsted Township to discuss economic development, local projects the township is planning, and how he can help address the township’s funding needs. Trustees Lisa Zver, Riley A. Alton, Tom Cole, and Gary Yelenosky attended the meeting.
TUESDAY, May 14
- Congressman Miller visited Channel Products in Solon, where he met CEO Teresa Linsday, who gave the Congressman a tour of the facility. Rep. Miller had the chance to talk with employees during his visit. Best-known in the gas appliance industry for igniters, safety controls, assemblies, and accessories, Channel provides manufacturers with components and systems for a variety of industries to improve safety, ensure reliability, and enhance efficiency. Channel Products employs nearly 200 people worldwide with 21 employees in the Solon plant. Photos from the Congressman’s visit can be found here.
- Congressman Miller and members of his staff stopped by the Dayton Development Coalition’s reception in Washington, D.C. The Congressman met with the Dayton Development Coalition President and CEO Jeff Hoagland, VP of Engagement David Burrows, and other business and government leaders from Ohio, including many who serve Ohio’s 7th Congressional District and nearby areas.
- Congressman Miller honored the life of fallen Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin on the House Floor. Officer Derbin was killed in the line of duty while responding to an aggravated menacing report on Saturday, May 11. Prior to becoming a police officer, Derbin served in Kuwait in the National Guard. He was set to marry his high school sweetheart, Liv Wuebker, in a few months. Officer Derbin lived in Brooklyn Heights, which the Congressman represents, where he grew up and his family remains. WEDNESDAY, May 15
- Congressman Miller met with representatives of the Ohio Workforce Coalition (OWC) in his Washington, D.C. office. The group, which included OWC Director Rebecca Kusner, came to D.C. as part of the National Skills Coalition Fly-In. Congressman Miller learned about the work that OWC does to empower residents in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District with skills they need to succeed. He also provided an update on his latest piece of legislation, the American Workforce Act, which will create a voucher program for employers to hire and train employees. THURSDAY, May 16
- Congressman Miller spoke at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s Annual Leadership Meeting in Washington, D.C. A post about the Congressman’s engagement can be found here.
- Dave Abbott, Vice President of Defense and Aerospace Sales at Servitec, met with Congressman Miller while he was in town. Servitec, whose American operations are located in Sharon Center Township, manufactures lifesaving equipment such as rafts, small boats, and life jackets for maritime defense and aerospace maritime needs. Congressman Miller learned about the company’s recent acquisitions which expanded its capacity.
FRIDAY, May 17
- Congressman Miller met with members of his Agriculture Advisory Council, which includes leaders from across northeast Ohio’s agriculture sectors, to provide an update on the upcoming Farm Bill markup. The Agriculture Advisory Council has been vital in helping Rep. Miller pursue policies in the Farm Bill to help strengthen Ohio’s agriculture industry. - Zoom meeting with representatives of the Policy Pathways to Wellness titled “Bridging the Gaps in Women’s Health Across Ohio”,
- meeting with representatives from the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association,
- meeting with representatives from University Hospitals,
- meeting with the representatives of the Wayne County Farm Bureau,
- ribbon cutting event for the Nest Schools in Strongsville,
- the Wayne County Economic Development Council Luncheon with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President and CEO Loretta Mester,
- visit to the Louis Stokes Cleveland Medical Center with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough,
- the Cuyahoga Valley Chamber “State of the Schools” event,
- the Medina County Economic Development Corporation’s monthly member meeting,
- a Congressional Briefing with the Department of Homeland Security regarding the Know2Project,
- the “State of Olmsted Township” event,
- a Naturalization Ceremony which welcomed 127 new American citizens,
- meeting with representatives of the United Way of Summit and Medina Counties,
- the ribbon cutting event for the Bickle Insurance in Medina, and
- the ribbon cutting event for Trim Clinics in Medina.
