U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s Week in Review
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Below are the highlights of U.S. Congressman Max Miller’s (OH-07) schedule from the week of July 8 along with some highlights of his staff’s engagements with constituents.
MONDAY, July 8
Congressman Miller spoke on the House Floor in recognition of Olmsted Falls native Katie Moon’s incredible athletic accomplishments. Katie, a decorated Olympian, will represent the United States in the Pole Vault at the Paris Olympic Games this summer. Congressman Miller highlighted her achievements, including Gold Medals at the Tokyo Olympics, World Championships, Diamond League, and NCAA Championships. Congressman Miller met with members of Agudath Israel of America and Ohio to discuss support for Israel and increased incidents of antisemitism. Congressman Miller emphasized the importance of protecting Jewish students on college campuses, referencing his efforts to pass the Antisemitism Awareness Act. Attendees of the meeting included Rabbi Yitz Frank, Rabbi Yaakov Berger, Rabbi Yossie Charner, Mr. Shloime Heifetz, Mr. Menachem Lubling, and Mr. Ben Schwartz.
Congressman Miller joined Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) and members of the Ohio Delegation for a moment of silence to honor Officer Jamieson Ritter of the Cleveland Division of Police. Officer Ritter, who also served in the National Guard and Army Reserve, was killed in the line of duty on July 4 and was remembered for his heroism and dedication to the motto “protect and serve.” Officer Ritter dedicated his career to keeping the community safe, and the tribute highlighted his extraordinary sacrifice for his community and country.
Congressman Miller attended a reception hosted by the Ohio Grants Alliance (OGA), an initiative of the Ohio Business Roundtable in collaboration with regional business associations. The event celebrated OGA’s inaugural year successes in securing federal grant dollars to transform Ohio’s communities and enhance state competitiveness. The Congressman caught up with OGA’s leadership, including former Ohio Congressman Pat Tiberi, Greater Cleveland Partnership CEO Baiju Shah, and representatives from Jobs Ohio and the Ohio Business Roundtable and chatted about uniting Ohio’s business community.
TUESDAY, July 9
Congressman Miller met with Jack Irvin and Brad Bales, representatives from the Ohio Farm Bureau, to discuss the importance of advancing the Farm Bill to support Ohio farmers and ensure a robust and affordable food supply. Their conversation also touched on the potential of U.S. and Ohio-based biofuels to strengthen rural economic development and grow our energy resources. Pictures of the meeting can be found here.
Congressman Miller met with Columbia Gas of Ohio President Bob Heidorn, NIPSCO President Vince Parisi, and NiSource Director of Federal Government Affairs Pat Orth. The group discussed the company’s investments in Ohio, recent data center growth, and the impact of new regulations from the Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE). WEDNESDAY, July 10
Congressman Miller met with the CEO of University Hospitals (UH), Cliff Megerian. Their discussion included UH’s priorities for the fiscal year 2025 (FY25) appropriations process, including support for the Children’s Health Graduate Medical Education program and the Mission Zero program, both of which the Congressman has supported. Congressman Miller participated in a House Science, Space, and Technology Committee markup of the NASA Reauthorization Act. Congressman Miller, along with Congresswoman Emilia Sykes (OH-13), introduced the NASA Talent Program Exchange Act as an amendment, which was adopted unanimously. Congressman Miller met with University of Cincinnati (UC) President Neville Pinto to discuss UC’s impact on Ohio, underscored by its $10.6 billion regional impact and $22.7 billion statewide contribution. Congressman Miller participated in the House Agriculture Committee’s hearing titled “Examining the Consequences of EPA’s Actions on American Agriculture.” The Congressman highlighted federal regulations that are negatively impacting Ohio’s ability to produce and supply our nation’s food. Congressman Miller met executives from Metallus, including CFO Kris Westbrooks and VP of Manufacturing Excellence and Engineering Andrew Bissot. The conversation focused on the Leveling the Playing Field 2.0 Act, which aims to reform U.S. antidumping and countervailing duty laws. Formerly known as Timken Steel, Metallus, a Canton-based recycled-content electric arc furnace steelmaker, highlighted its production of high-performance carbon and alloy steel products for various critical industries such as automotive, aerospace, and defense.
Congressman Miller met with MetroHealth CEO Dr. Airica Steed and MetroHealth Chief Government Relations Officer Allison Poulios to address policy challenges affecting MetroHealth’s community service initiatives, including telehealth expansion, site-neutral payments, and the 340B Drug Discount Program. THURDSAY, July 11
Congressman Miller met with representatives from the insurance industry in Ohio, including 1859 Mutual President and CEO Andy Younker, Ohio Mutual Insurance Company Vice President Todd Boyer, and Western Reserve Mutual Casualty Company Vice President William Galonski. Discussions focused on reforming the Federal Insurance Office, addressing the rising cost of auto ownership, data privacy concerns, and legislation related to third-party litigation funding.
SATURDAY, July 13
Congressman Miller attended the St. Vladimir Ukrainian Festival in Parma. He enjoyed delicious food, spoke with community members, and watched several performances. Community leaders such as Seven Hills Mayor Anthony Biasiotta, Parma Councilman Kevin Kussmaul, President of the United Ukrainian Organization of Ohio Dr. George Jaskiw, and Former President of the United Ukrainian Organization of Ohio Marta Liscynesky-Kelleher all attended the event.
